The Working Group on Inspections addresses a current issue that affects everyone and is particularly relevant to the engineering world:

The question of war and peace.*

Based on the lessons learned from the Peloponnesian War (429–404), speaker Dr Justinus Pieper will share his insights for today.

The following aspects are considered:
How is war ‘made’? What needs to be considered? What can happen? And who can prevent or end it, and how?

The speaker presents timeless strategies from history, including:

– Kriegsmache: Vorwand versus Ursache, Anlass versus Grund?
- How to make war palatable
- What to make of elites
- War profiteers on both sides of the border with no interest in peace: investors, financiers, beneficiaries
- What are the neighbours doing? Is there a laughing third party? Or fourth?
- War and its internal logic, its supporters, and those who come to terms with it.
- What if something completely unexpected happens?
- How does one find a way out of war?

Dr Justinus Pieper is a historian and leadership coach. He researches, teaches and trains in proven strategies and tactics from the past and present (www.erfolgsgeschichte.net).
